Cure For The Blues...

I had a rough time coming back home after our trip. Coming home to a mess is no fun, having a ton of laundry to do is no fun, and then having your husband working 110 hours (for real) that week is not so much fun either. Just thinking of all those things at once got me in a slump last Friday. But then on Saturday or Sunday I finally found a tutorial on how to shirr that worked with my sewing machine. I was soooo excited I immediately busted this out...You can't see real well, but the top is gathered using elastic thread so its that smocked look but stretchy. With my machine, you have to wind the bobbin tightly the same way you do with regular thread. Other machines you have to hand wind the bobbin loosely. I decided to make a matching and bow and woohoo, Avery has a new outfit!I then decided to have fun making little wrist cuff bracelets as well. Can't wait to make more of these and embellish with buttons, beads, gemstones, etc.I found a pattern for the n and l that I think looks better so that was exciting and helped get me out of the slump as well!
This kinda helped give me warm fuzzies too. Avery is so sweet and loves making people pictures! Our little neighbor friend broke her wrist on the school playground so Avery made her this. It says..."I'm sorry you broke wrist. Get better soon" She then drew a "make a wish blowing flower" and a snail that made snail tracks! Random but cute!

Random Kid Conversations Thursday

Zane: Do you know why I’m a good listener right now?
Me: Why?
Zane: Because my heart is being special. My heart made me do the right thing for my mommy and daddy.

Zane: Hey Austen, do you remember when we all used to live together. Me Avery Mommy Daddy Amy Aaron and you and henry and your mother and husband….Do you have a husband Austen?
Austen: No.
Zane: …and your father and…
Austen: I don’t have a father.
Zane: Yes you do, It’s Aaron
Austen: No, he’s just my daddy
Zane: Oh, well, do you remember that?

An argument between the two boys… What would you say to them after hearing this!!?
Austen: Zane did you know God and Jesus is the same thing.
Zane: No, Jesus is God’s son. God is the daddy.
Austen: No, they are the same thing. It’s just one guy with two names.

Avery comes home from school today singing…."if you wanna be my lover…" Seriously? Why don't all kids just listen to KLove. Anyway, I tried to explain it isn’t a nice song. She asked why it was mean. I tried to tell her what lover meant then I somehow said the word sex and I’m sure none of it made sense because I would stop mid sentence and decide not to continue. It was a less than constructive conversation and I just wrapped it up by saying…it just isn’t something nice girls sing… I’m sure she’s confused. Oh dear. Why am I a parent?

Can't wait for the nice weather tomorrow. We will be going to the zoo. You should come to!

SoCoS

Stream of Conscious Sunday- Neat idea from Kate I figured I'd try.

3 minutes and 37 seconds starts now...

Vacation. I just got back from a vacation. I came home to a messy house which is very depressing. I had a good time in Alabama. I saw a lot of family and got to relax. Well, as much as you can with two kids and no husband to leave them with. Hit a road block. Hit a road block. I could now use a vacation with no kids. One that involves massages, pedicures and other fun spa treatments. I can’t wait until my sister comes over to clean my house. I just can’t get myself to do it. It got so bad while I was gone and I just haven’t felt like doing it. I haven’t even unpacked my clothes. I haven’t even got my luggage out of the car. I have updated my facebook and blog though. That is something. Hit a Road block. I can't help it. I'm looking at the stop watch and it’s done….Now!

SPRING BREAK!!

Before any trip, we have to clean out our car. This is usually Wes's job while i'm packing everyone's clothes. This time, I had to do everything. I filled up 2 walmart sacks of recycle (bottles and paper), 2 sacks full of trash (crumbs, stickers, food wrappers, 4 month old black fuzzy hot pockets), and 2 sacks full of junk that is still laying on our kitchen floor (socks, cups, toys). So so gross. I feel this is normal when you have kids, but I may just be in denial. I also had to rearrange the carseats and check out what is underneath them...
So Thursday evening we drove to Dallas and stayed with Amy's mom. We woke up at 6am Friday and drove to my friend Julie's house near Baton Rouge. We spent the evening in New Orleans walking around the French Quarter and of course Bourbon Street. The voodoo stores are creepy...(you can't tell, but that is a real alligator head Amy is holding!)This guy was standing on a rope with one leg. He would even play behind his back. Pretty impressiveWe ate some jambalaya and margarita pizza which was delishI love seeing this kind of stuff and I wonder how much they make every night. I can't imagine being so still. When he did move, it was like a robot. We then chilled at a little jazz place and ate some beignets and drank some coffee. So fun and relaxing there. Had to hurry and leave before all the night time crazies came out.Coming back to our parking spot, weirdo clowns wanted to give the kids beaded necklaces...
We then stayed up late hanging out with Julie while Brett got the kids to bed. We woke up Saturday and made our way to my Grandpa's house in Foley, Al.
That night we ate at Lambert's and saw a lady pass out and the ambulence came. It was crazy but we got the bench where that lady and her famliy were sitting on. Made the wait a little easier. I'm able to sound so inconsiderate because 20 minutes later, she came in and sat down to eat!! The food was so yummy!! Sunday was a little too windy up by the water, so we went to The Hangout and let the kids play on this mound of sand with tunnels and toys while we kicked back and relaxed.Every couple of hours, they start up the bubble foam machine where the kids got soaked
It was kinda crazy going back and forth between the two families but I'm glad we were able to see everyone! We usually spent the day with the Turs and the evening/night with the Delmonts. Monday we took the kids to the beach because they were dying to go but it was still pretty windy and chilly.
Amy wanted me to make her into a beautiful mermaid!
I think I did a pretty good job!
I didn't feel like getting sand all over me, so I just went with Dinosaur feet! Some guy caught a crab and showed it to us which the kids thought was pretty neat. We also saw other people carrying a jellyfish with their surf board. I wish I would have gone over there to see it, but I didn't. Jason made an awesome sand castle
Abbie came that afternoon and brought some bubbles to entertain the kids while we went to the Tanger Outlet mall
Around sunset, we took some pictures by the beach. The Tur cousins: Liam, Avery, Duncan, Crispin, Austen, Zane. Missing Morgan and Levi
Abbie and Didi with the grandkids Gina's fam
Watching a crab. It's so weird how they walk sideways. Since it was so windy by the beach, Amy and I decided to take a couple shots right outside the condo they were staying in as well...

Avery's favorite aunt! haha
Me and my cousins
Tuesday, it was finally nice to layout on the beach. Here is the Delmont crew. Sherry, Blair, Peyton. Sheila (my mom), Brittany, Avery, Zane, Me. Missing Shelly and Jennifer. I couldn't lay out with them though because we went on a dolphin cruise. It was pretty neat seeing the dolphins swim and jump in the air. I pictured several dolphins, but the kids still thought it was awesome. Our trip was over. St. Patricks Day, right before the long 14.5 hour drive home... On this drive, Amy and I had to stay awake somehow. We got 7 or 8 semi's to honk (everyone except a female driver!). We also held up a sign asking if people were wearing green or if we needed to pinch them (yes, we are 13). We also practiced for our American Idle tryout where we will ROCK out and be sure to give several shout outs! Ha. We made it home at Midnight that night and I was welcomed by a very messy house......

Go Away Rain and Come Back Nice Weather.

We had some awesome weather this last week, so we hit up different parks. We went to "our park" of course. Here is part of it...We also went to the park know as our backyard and Friday we went to Mitch park to meet one of Avery's friend's. I meant to take a picture of all of our park adventures, but left the camera on the counter Friday and when they were playing in our backyard, I couldn't find the dern thing. There goes my plan. We still have some other parks in mind (Jaxon wants us to go to "The big rocket park"- anyone know what/where that is!?) once we have nice weather again.
This weekend was once again a crazy weekend. Saturday, we had Zane's soccer game at 11 and Avery's at 1. I video tapped these games, so I didn't take any pictures other than this one with my mom and dad...
This pic is from this little boy's mom. He is the reason Avery wanted to play soccer this season. She saw him sitting and quickly scurried on over to sit by him! I see she left some distance, playing the whole interested but not desperate, maybe a tad hard to get?! Haha. We had to leave Avery's game a little early to make it to Brittany's Spring Sing performanc. She was such a cute little grandma!! Here is a random picture of me and mom in her awesome reversible 70's vest. Too bad you can't see the other side!
After Spring Sing, Wes and I hung out with some friends until bed time while my parents stayed with the kids. Sunday we had church, ate out, said goodbye to my parents, ran to Walmart to quickly grab a gift off a baby registry, drive to the baby shower, realize I forgot the darn card (I think this is my second time to do this...), start stressing out wondering if I should run back home real fast or just write the names of people in my gift group on the back of the reciept and call it good, decided on the latter, didn't stay long, had to run back home in order to clean the house before our church small group came at 4. Man, I was worn out that night.

Glad today was pretty laid back. I'm fully recovered from the weekend craziness!

Random Photos Around the House

I've been working on another name for a nursery. Not sure I like the N and L. They seem to be misfits??
Here would be another good picture for my childcare fliers that I don't have...followed by "Sure I drug them, but we have Art Time!!"
Zane worked so hard and was very proud of his masterpiece...
Here is the "I don't feel like cleaning up a mess Art Time"... Last Sunday we had Avery's gymnastics meet. I was under the impression it was us and one other gym and very low key (like all the other meets she's had). Oh no, it was almost $20 for our family to even walk in the doors. There were about 10 other teams and it was 3 hours long. She did good on Vault and Floor and needs a little work on Bars and Beam. She seemed to like it but was definitely tired when it was over.
Just a random photo...
Updated progress on the room: It is useable! Still need cabinets and some trim along with touch up paint, but we are now playing in it. (No, I don't know how to use my camera. Thanks!)
This above project has completely worn me out and that is an understatement. Now that it is useable, I'm taking a break from it. Woohoo for the weather being nice enough to hit up several parks. I can sit on the bench while the kids burn energy...
Only 7 more days...........
