Kidz Kamp Wk. 4

All About Me Theme
We did this last Friday AND today! I decided to switch it to Wednesday, but a couple of kids had already RSVP'd for Fridays, so we did it two days! We started off by making ourselves! There were different kinds of yarn, ribbon, felt, foam, googly eyes, paper, buttons, jewels, flowers, etc. On Friday, they went around the room talking about why they decorated it the way they did. With less kids on Friday, we were able to talk A LOT! Things some of them said...I like wearing scarfs and being fancy but I usually don't get to be so I just wanted to make mine fancy. I drew a little purse in my hand because I'm going to church.- Lily. Mine has two light sabers because I love star wars. It has flip flops and a soccer ball because that is my sport.- Elijah. Mine is Spiderman because I love Spiderman. His best friend is Batman. - Zane.

Story Time/Song Time We then made an All About Me Book. Our name, portrait, family, favorite thing to do, characteristics of ourselves, our hand traced, and more... Fridays group...Wednesday's group... For snack they made themselves again using peanut butter, coconut, twizzlers, different kinds of nuts, and chocolate chips!We picked different characteristics we all had and graphed them out. FYI. If you laminate paper, it works like a dry erase board so we were able to graph several different things.

I found the You Are Special book (by Max Lucado)on DVD at Mardel's, so I thought it would be fun to watch a little short movie to change things up a bit! We then talked about how we are all different but do not need to be mean or brag (dots/stars). What God thinks is the only thing that matters and we should be kind to everyone! Great Movie!!

Today we had time to play Simon Says. Friday they decorated longer and wanted to read more books so we didn't get to play this.Such a fun day!

July 4th...a little behind.

We went to my parents house for a cookout with several of my mom's aunts uncles and cousins (Handshy reunion). As you can see, the weather did not cooperate AT ALL. We put up tarps to help some... The food was delish even though the meat got rained on everytime Dad opened the grill!
Because their wasn't enough room under the tarps outside, the party moved into the basement as well...

My grandma with my cousin's little baby (15 months old or something?). I think him and Zane weigh the same! He's a cutie!

Everyone was gone by 3 since it was so miserable outside. It was time for fireworks. Bring on the snakes...

and the big stuff...

Ended the night with a game (that Wes and I won...in case you were wondering!!).

I promise they have the same daddy...

I just love VBS pictures. We've had pictures of both of them practically crying before. One year Avery had a stretched out head and it was pretty funny looking! This year they both look great but they don't really look related! Ha. Ps. I loved the ventriloquist!

What would you do if the person you see everyday leaves you...

I had to deal with this 3 years ago when my college roomie left me and the time has come again. Feel free to feel VERY sorry for me. At least she only moved 3-4 away instead of 11! I think I can survive this.

Cousins

This is the last time to swim in Austen's pool... How have I never seen this rocket simulator at the Science Museum before?!?!

I rode with Avery while Morgan babysat Presley and Zane. Zane is such a little shmoozer he apparently talked the "controller" into letting him talk to Avery in which he told her "sing We Will Rock You!" I wondered why she busted out in song halfway through.

I saw Morgan and Avery dressing up so I went and grabbed the camera. They immediately posed like this in .5 seconds as if it were rehersed. Cracks me up.

5 Senses Theme

We started by painting a beach scene. Because it was all about senses, each paint color had a different texture or smell. The blue water had baking soda to make it a little thicker in order to make visable waves. The brown had coffee grounds in it to make it look like bark. The green had lime jello powder to smell yummy and give it an interesting look (I thought it would dissolve, but it didn't!). The tan had sand in it because it was our sandy beach. The white had flour to make thick puffy clouds and the yellow had yummy smelling vanilla in it!

Here they are painting away (or waiting patiently!) The 4 year olds were given paper that I had already drawn the scene on. The 5-6 year olds had a blank paper and had to try and replicate it all on their own.

I was soooo impressed with how well they did!

Once dried, you can add stickers or more paint to add a boat, beach ball, birds, etc.

Story Time. They learned all about the five senses and what body part controls them. Lot's of fun interesting facts!

They learned a super cheesy song about the five senses. They are either great actors or they actually enjoyed singing it out. I am glad to know cheesy still works with this age...

We then did a smelling game where I had 6 film canisters filled with vanilla, alcohol, a banana chunk, cinnamon, lime, and gold fish. Everyone guessed banana correctly but the others had guesses like peppermint gum, sugar, gummy worms, perfume, etc. It seems I forgot to take a picture of this activity.

Outside we ran around finding things that feel either soft, hard, prickly, rough, etc. We also threw in some vocab words and learned what pliable, coarse, durable, and rutted mean!

We washed our hands and enjoyed an assortment of different tastes. We started with a tiny spoonfull of cocoa which was super bitter!! We then went to salty pretzels and sweet jello powder. I was going to use pixie stix, but Wes one day bought 10 boxes of jello and has yet to make any! We ended with some yummy sour gummy worms!

One thing we didn't do that I had planned was to draw a person while blindfolded. That can be a fun activity for you all to try at home! Drawing pictures using listening skills is also fun. We are doing it now actually. (Draw a big square. Draw a small circle to the right of the square....) It is fun seeing everyone's interpretation. We are learning to be very specific when telling everyone what to draw. This is a great exercise workout for your ears as well as Right/Left practice.

Random Things Kids Have Said Thursday

Zane my little sweet heart: He saw a Hannah Montana throw blanket and said..."Wow, Avery would love that. I wish I could buy that for her so she could keep it forever and ever." Nothing is sweeter than when your kids show their sweet and caring side!!

Av: "Can I have pudding AND skittles for my after nap treat?"
Z: "Avery, you are going to get diabetes if you eat too much sugar..."
Haha...that would be Wes and his scare tactics...

Z: "Can we eat at Old McDonalds?"
Me: "No, we just had that two days ago."
Lily: "Yea and you are only supposed to eat McDonalds like once a year."
Me: "You guys only eat there once a year?!?!"
Lily: "Well, maybe like once a month....or twice a month....two or three times a month."
Haha...

Av: "Jaxon said his mommy doesn't pull down his chronicles"
Me: "What is that?"
Av: "The things you pull down on my nails..."
Me: "Oh, cuticles!"
Av: "Yea. His mommy doesn't pull his down...they are going to get stuck and grow over his nails..."
Me: I think I said "Hey, I love this song....can you guys hear it?!?!" While blasting Klove on the radio!! Does anyone else go crazy when cuticles aren't pushed down?!?
